Excessive smartphone use is often associated with depression and anxiety, low self-esteem and chronic stress.

This month, we share highlights of Move 5 – Navigating Power and Politics. As Leaders, we are always navigating the domains of Power and Politics in our work. We support our Leaders to explore their assessments and narratives of Power and the results are pretty amazing.

What we find is that most leaders have narratives about Power that limit what’s possible, and if we can get to the heart of such narratives, we can unlock a different ‘Way of Being’. With a new interpretation of ‘what’s going on’ for ourselves and others, we can show up as more powerful.

Confronting these narratives is never easy work, but it is liberating. It is an access point to self-esteem, self-enactment, self-respect and self-determination. This is where we leave our Leaders at the end of Move 5.

A couple of questions to ponder:
How would you describe your relationship with Power and Politics?
Where do you give your Power away, and what are you seeking to preserve in the moments you do?
If you were ‘being powerful’ in your life, what would you be doing differently?

As a Leader, it is possible to create conditions for collective work-life balance. Leveraging flexible working arrangements and encouraging and celebrating (rather than denigrating) time off will serve you and your Teams in the long run.

This does not mean work is regarded as a series of intervals between vacations. Instead, it’s making sure your people are rested, well and able to produce their best work.

Note - It’s likely that if you’re a high-performing organisation, things will get out of balance for some of your high-achieving people. The trick is to build individual capacity to know that moment of imbalance and make sure your high achievers swing the pendulum the other way to level out.
